Information

Gema Polanco

(Valencia, 1992) is a visual artist. Her work integrates diverse procedures, such as installation, textiles and drawing, to articulate a symbolic language constructed from recurring elements that bring coherence to her work.
Appropriating and allying herself with aesthetics from Punk and Rock & Roll -traditionally masculine spaces- using them with the mystical and the surreal to question the feminine heritage that imprisons and categorizes women. Always in search of creating new spaces, alter egos that allow us to be who we want to be, paving the way for new forms of care: honest, accessible and peaceful. She has a degree in Photography from the London College of Communication (London, 2015), a postgraduate degree in PHotoEspaña (Madrid, 2016) and a Master’s degree in Visual Arts and Education from the University of Barcelona (Barcelona, 2017). Her work has been exhibited at festivals such as Circulation(s) in Paris, PhotoEspaña, PhotoAlicante, Art Nou, Loop Barcelona, Miami New Media Festival in Miami, and Aragon Park. She recently joined the collections: Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo CA2M and IVAM Institut Valencià d’Art Modern.
In addition, this past year she has participated in the exhibition Babel. Materia y Lenguaje. Colección Kells at the Centre del Carme de Cultura Contemporànea (Valencia), “Built a house and watched it burn” at Moises Perez de Albeniz gallery (Madrid), and has had two solo shows at Stain Projects (Mallorca) and at Jorge López Galería (Valencia). She was recently present at Arco 2025 with the Moisés Pérez de Albéniz gallery.
In parallel, Gema Polanco works as an art director, flm director, curator, and stylist, primarily in the music industry. She is also the founder of Navaja Automatica, transforming the visual culture generated by music into fashion, prints, and fanzines under the
D.I.Y legacy since 2017.
